Reasons and methods for rapid rusting of weather resistant steel plates
Weathering steel plate is a type of steel plate that is relatively wear-resistant, resistant to corrosion and rust, and generally does not rust. It is quite sturdy, has many characteristics, and has been applied in many places. But weather resistant steel plates generally do not rust, but in practical applications, they need to rust quickly. So, what about this method of rapid rusting? We have introduced the following points to everyone:
1. Purchase and sell professional rust promoters. Weathering steel has gradually entered the view of Chinese people as a landscape use, but due to the urgent construction period, they all hope to have a quick rusting method. There are now professional rust promoter products available, which are powder products rather than liquids (usually acids). After purchasing, follow the instructions to mix water and boil it before use. The method is very simple. And the merchant also provides video teaching, which is quite convenient. This method will rust within 30 minutes
2. Polishing spray method. Remove the surface oxide layer of the weathering steel, then spray clean water on it, and spray again after it dries. Spray water multiple times. This method is expected to rust within 3-4 days.
Finally, there are also methods on the market that use acid and salt water to rust. Our company has conducted corresponding experiments on both of these methods. The experimental results show that the corrosiveness of acid is too strong, and the rusting speed is acceptable, but the operational risk is high. Moreover, weathering steel is easily corroded and damaged due to its strong corrosiveness. There have been many cases where steel plates turn black and fall off layer by layer after using acid for one month, so I strongly advise against using acid. Salt water corrosion is relatively better, but it is very easy to turn black and does not achieve a brilliant rust color effect.
Why do weathering steel plates need to undergo rust treatment? The overall reason is divided into two main points: one is aesthetics, and the other is practicality. So what is the specific reason?
1、 Quickly form a stable, uniform color and thickness rust red oxide film that is not easily wiped off. In an outdoor temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, the rust treatment process is generally completed within 2-5 days, and the rust red color can be fully achieved.
2、 Under the rust treatment catalytic scheme, the rapidly generated surface roughness has a tactile feel, making the structure more volumetric and quality oriented, enhancing visual and sensory effects, rapidly improving the effectiveness of garden design, and enhancing economic and artistic benefits! (This tactile sensation is what designers aspire to. Generally, it takes 1-2 years for weathering steel to naturally rust and achieve such an effect. After 2-3 months, there is only a slight yellow rust color, and there is no tactile sensation, making it easy for rust to fall off!)
3、 The rust red oxide film formed is uniform, consistent, and stable in color, regardless of local geographical location, weather, or orientation (facing southeast or northwest)!
4、 The processing technology is non corrosive and will not affect the continued formation of surface rust layer in the later stage. It is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and harmless, and does not affect the growth of plants. Not affecting the mutual "symbiosis" between limited materials and surrounding plants, reflecting a sustainable design concept. Rust red weathering steel plate will change over time, and its color is greatly affected by the environment and climate. After being placed for a long time, it is easy to change from bright reddish brown to dark reddish brown, which can trace the historical sense of the site, record the moment of time, extend the vitality of the site, and enable limited materials to "coexist" with each other, reflecting a sustainable design concept.
